It has been slow at my new job. So slow that it has been difficult to feel like I am settling in. It is getting better. It is still slow, but I am starting to be where I have stuff I can work on even while it is slow.
The biggest thing about the new job is the amount of change. I started as part of a team that consisted of :
Project Manager
Tech Lead (software developer)
Developer/Mentor(software developer)
Developer/Contractor(associate software developer)
2 Business Analysts
The team has now been merged with another team and had some shifting such that it now consists of:
PM
2 Tech Leads (Ours and someone that used to be a developer on their team.)
4 Developers (The previous 2, plus one from their team and myself.)
1 BA (Their BA put in her 2 weeks earlier this week.)
1 Application Support/Admin (Not sure of the title yet, but formerly one of our BAs)
1 Architect (Not really on either team, but formerly the other teams Tech Lead)
So, there has been quite a bit of change since starting this job already. I have also heard rumors of getting in some "Tier 1 Support" to handle most calls to our team come spring such that the 4 developers will be able to concentrate on big issues, bug fixes, and improvements/upgrades. I am not sure how true this is as of yet, but will find out as time goes on.
From a more personal perspective, I have been resting. I have not worked on any big projects around the house or on-line for the last two months. The stress of getting settled in and adjusting to the new location/schedule and whatnot has been plenty. I have also been trying to start the habit of using the elliptical almost every day as of last week.
I think the house is close to the point where we can make a video tour, but we may make people log in to view it. I am starting a small programming project with Matt for the kids ministry at church. The basement back room is ready to be organized. The garage needs just a little cleaning/organizing. The yard and gardens could use some weed-pulling.
At church we are setting the tech ministry up for expansion in hopes that Eric's dream of a new building by Christmas is realized. This way we would be ready for it instead of scrambling as we previously have with big changes. Even if it were to not happen we hope it would allow us to provide an even better experience at the theater.
That is all for now. I have two topics that I am going to try to force myself to do some research and posting on in the next week or two. Hopefully these would be posts in the vein of some stuff I had done a long time ago on a blog as opposed to the more personal way this one has gone.
